Changing Worlds began in 1996 at Hibbard Elementary School, a Chicago Public School located in the diverse, predominately immigrant Albany Park neighborhood. Driven by a vision to build bridges across cultures through story, its founder, Kay Berkson, partnered with the school’s staff and parents to create an oral history and photography exhibit.
For over three decades Kay Berkson has devoted her time and energy to organizations and civic issues advancing human rights, social justice and cultural diversity initiatives. She is a co-founder of the Crossroads Fund and was instrumental in the development of other local non-profit organizations.
Special thanks to the following organizations and individuals who were instrumental in the development of Changing Worlds. Their passion, commitment and vision contributed to the success of the Changing Worlds project and its transition to a nonprofit organization.
